    THE ART OF BOX-MAKING

    April 3,2021
    The Art of Box-making

    Hi there!
Have you ever received a gift in a box? How did you feel? Elated?

Well, making a box is not so difficult as long as you work with the right materials and the right measurements.

    Let's check this out.

    The steps required are:

    1. A positive mindset. Making a box would require that you are optimistic, especially if it's your first time even when things may get a little cozy.

    2. Materials required should be available. Every material needed to make a box and adequate. Trying to manage materials could greatly affect the box you're about to make.

    3. Maximum concentration is needed so your box comes out well. You don't want your box to look like something else after the whole process! Meanwhile, you can get play a soft cool music for ease as you make your box.

    Tada! We're good to go.

    Material required
    🔸 Strawboard
    🔸 White sticker paper
    🔸 A really long ruler
    🔸 A very sharp cutter
    🔸 A beautiful paper cover
    🔸 Top bond
🔸 A neat piece of rag

Cut out the strawboard based on the measurements for the size of box you want. E.g 10 by 10 by 4 inches

This would mean that you cut up a square of 18 by 18 inches. That is a square of 10 inches plus an additional 4 inches on both sides.

Crease out the four inches on all sides to make the strawboard bend to a box.

Cover completely with the sticker paper and cut out excesses.

To the paper cover, add 1inch on all sides using the initial measurement. This would serve as the flap for the interior.

Using the top bond, cover the outer box gently, wiping off with a neat piece of rag any spillage that may occur.

And your box is ready! Using the measurements of this box, make the cover following the same processes.

It's quite an interesting experience. However, there are precautions to take note of.

🔸Be careful with the cutter so you don't cut your fingers.

🔸 Measure accurately. Don't add a 0.1 or remove a 0.1 because you feel it may not do much harm.

🔸 Apply the top bond wisely.

With these, you should be on way to making a box! I hope you enjoyed this!

    The Art of Box-making

Setting up a professional palette could be a difficult task for beginners in painting. The success of your work could be attributed to the way you set your colours on the painting palette. Many beginners struggle with colour mixing and get things muddled up because of the way they arranged their colours on a mixing pallette.

On of the major things that beginners can do is to first ask, what scheme would this painting be? How many colours should I put on my palettes? How do I arrange them in such a way that things would not muddle up? In this article, we will answer all these questions.

What scheme of colour are you working with?
As a beginner, the first thing you have to look at before painting your subject is to first ask yourself, what is the overall feel of the object? Is it cool feel or a warm up feel. This will determine the right colour to set on your palettes. For a warm up feel, colours like yellow ochre, primary yellow, raw umber, umber, cadmium yellow, cadmium red hue, cadmium orange, red crimson can be considered. While for a cool feel you may want to consider colours like cyan, purple, pthalo blue, cerulean blue, sea blue, sky blue, pale green, sea green on your palette.
